If you have web sites you are referring from, go to
http://www.stumbleupon.com/
and "stumble upon" your own sites (you'll get added to their popular
links list for people who are seeking the same type sites.)
Many search engines and indices (plural for index) will
allow you to submit your whole referral link (and some wont.) I knew
someone that got his referral link for another site posted on the FIRST
PAGE of Google and made a killing in referrals !
Go to ShiftCode based GPT sites (Google "ShiftCode GPT
site" and use their banner advertising options (usually cheap with good
exposure.) They allow you to draw their members away (? idunno why ?
/ counter-productive in my mind) (if you have a good pitch on your banner.)
At Star Referrals, you can Buy, Earn & Spend Stars to easily increase

Buy or earn yourself a snappy new domain name and have
it redirect (the whole domain) to your referral link (you don't even
need hosting.) Then promote your new domain to the search engines, indices,
and forums. It helps not having the obvious referral link look.
Cheap domains start at just $5.95 with basic (but powerful) hosting
at
or to earn a FREE domain and/or hosting just go to one of the FREE domain
based "Lagoon" sites listed prominently on our
Get Free Stuff page.
Start blogging about your referral sites / links at
https://www.blogger.com/start Blogger is Google based and is your
best chance at a popular blog with a great Google rank. Google regularly
favors their own blogs based on their own blog site interface (and it
doesn't hurt to promote this blog to other search engines and indices
as well.) Another good blog site with max exposure is the eBay
based blogs. Make an eBay blog and promote it as well. Here's
a link to my simple, cheesy, outdated, but PRODUCTIVE (surprisingly)
eBay blog:

powerful blog today at
TypePad !
Go to
http://www.SelfPromotion.com/
to promote your sites in detail for free with a nice powerful submission
interface (optional - send them $20 if you appreciate their services
- I did.)
Think of a unique niche of people that might appreciate
getting paid online from home and post to forums covering that niche.
...for example, people with some sort of social anxiety (such as agoraphobia,
etc.) or other homebound people might want to learn about sites like
these, etc. etc.

The jury is still out on this stunt but it deserves
a mention (I actually did it but didn't notice measurable results.)
Go to your local grocery store and ask for a stack of those yellow (or
whatever) cards that they have pre-made for posting on their bulletin
board. Take them home and use your pc/word processor/
and printer (may have to hand feed depending upon size) to print out
announcements. Go back to the store later and post them.
TIP: For this to work best it would be better if
you had your own domain name either with your referral link on it,
or forwarding to your referral link (people are lazy and greedy
nowadays, they don't know that signing up under your referral link
doesn't matter to them (doesn't take money away from them), most
people - when presented with an obvious referral link will just
type in the URL directly - for some odd reason.)
Make up business cards (like the free ones at VistaPrint
- just pay S&H) and get to the office early one day... place one on
each of your co-worker's keyboards without them noticing... when they
have a bored minute or two you have a good chance of them getting curious
and checking it out.)
Invest in a stick of permanent adhesive and visit
your local public pay phones - post one of your business cards on
each (making them just sticky enough to stay, but easy enough to
take.) Go to your local public library, "accidentally" leave
one of your business cards at each public internet terminal (oops!
- smile.)
I read a while back about a kid who regularly went
to the top of the Empire State Building and threw his referral business
cards off when the guard wasn't looking. I have just one quote here
from "Woodsy" the owl - "Give a hoot, Don't pollute" :-)
Purchase web site promotional software that will automate
your site submission efforts.
I sprang $100 and change for a nice app that submits
my sites and pages automatically with the least amount of effort
on my part. It's called "All-in-one-Submission" but it's a bit clunky
- there are better ones out there - I'm just stuck with this one
(SUCKER!) - but it does what it says it does (just not a "polished"
app like one would expect after forking over a hundred bucks.)
Oh, and don't get fooled by software / services
that say they will promote your site(s) to 30,000 search engines,
etc. Chances are 95% of those sites will be Free For All (FFA) sites
which no human ever looks at (at one time FFA sites increased your
"link popularity" - which mattered then - but all respectable search
engines and indices have learned to ignore them now - seeing their
obvious abuse and non-consequence.) Anyways, what's the point? Most
FFA sites want you to manually confirm your entry nowadays (want
80 or 90 emails to respond to personally - go ahead and submit to
useless FFA sites.)
If you run your own referral sites... do your
homework on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques (freely available
all over the web.) Learn about the proper use of META TAGS, robots.txt,
and sitemap files. If you are going to do it, do it right!
Oh, and don't use "frames" when building your site (they are not search
engine/index friendly - don't shoot yourself in the foot.)
Tell your friends, co-workers, and associates about
your juicy secret extra source of income. Convince them if they need
convincing. Coach them if they need coaching (hold their hand for a
while until they "get it".) This really works!
Be persistent, but DON'T SPAM the search engines/indices.
A good interval for me (with good luck) has been to submit at least
once a month (but NOT more.) A lot of engines/indices will quickly
add you to their trashcan if you bug them more (not a good place to
be.)
Regularly DO A SEARCH, as if you knew nothing at all
about the subject of incentive / GPT sites. See what pops up. Notice
the first site on the list. Notice what they are doing right? ...and
what you are doing wrong? (meta tags, keywords, description, etc.) Notice
keywords, etc. Improve the quality, quantity, and newness of your
textual content. Be honest and open, don't resort to superlatives and
hype wording like "Go to this site and make $500 in an hour" and "fire
your boss" (a big turn off and one of the reasons why people may leave
your site early.) Morph your site into a closer rendition of the
top site and re-submit (another step up the ladder?) ...just common
sense.
Join a link exchange network (thousands out there.)
This may help slightly. Depending upon the quality (interest generated
- staying power) in your site (compared to the others in the network.)
Take over an already popular web site domain that has
expired (get 'em cheap if you know where to look) and post your referral
links / banners there. Enjoy instant popularity with the twist of people
not knowing what hit them once they've arrived.
Choose a referral banner that doesn't give up the whole
site URL (or edit/make your own.) Many people will (for some reason)
choose to type in the URL manually if they have the benefit of knowing
it rather that clicking upon a referral link. Leave 'em guessing
a bit (make it a bit of a mystery) as to what site the banner is speaking
of. When speaking of sites, refer to them in a way that doesn't
obviously intuitively disclose the URL (for example, if I was writing
about www.CashLagoon.com, I would say "Cash Lagoon" rather than "CashLagoon",
or "CashLagoon.com".
